Stamping Down on Costs

The Royal Mail doesn't like you using stamps - They are expensive to produce and distribute. The Royal Mail prefers businesses to use franked mail instead.
This is why the Royal Mail offers postal discounts on franked mail.

In 2008 the incentives have become even better with certain discounts being increased by 50% in the April 2008 price tariffs.

The discounts apply on first and second class mail and for letters, large letters and packets. For instance every time you send a large letter first class you can save 6p by franking it. Doesn't sound much but it's the old adage about looking after the pennies.

You can use our postal calculator to work out the savings this could mean for your business.

So, if you want to switch to franked mail, how much does a franking machine cost? Well, entry level franking machines can be rented for £20 to £25 a month. If you have a small but growing business it is worth keeping an eye on how much you spend on postage to see when it becomes a cost saving switching to franked mail.
